Accessibility to education and nature are paramount to Jack and Jean’s legacy

Our challenge isn’t so much as to teach children about the natural world, but to find ways to nurture & sustain the instinctive connections they already carry.

Nature

So that future generations continue to have the opportunities to enjoy and immerse in our natural surroundings, the Foundation believes that we need to invest in preserving and sustaining the environment.

The Gosnell Foundation supports local DC environmental conservancies and non-profits that work globally focusing on protecting our natural environments and providing access and education to future generations.

The Foundation has supported organizations such as Anacostia Watershed, City Blossoms, Chesapeake Bay Conservancy, The National Park Foundation, Audubon Naturalist Society, and Sultana Education Foundation.

Education

Education was a priority to Jack and Jean Gosnell. They supported their children and grandchildren through each individual’s path of studies and achievements. Regardless of the type of degree and from where it was obtained, Jack and Jean wanted to ensure that all had the desired educational opportunities.

Today, the Gosnell Foundation aspires to enable the most vulnerable to have those same opportunities. We support organizations that have identified the importance of early childhood education throughout the DC area and beyond including but not limited to: Identity, The Literacy Lab, and Communities in Schools of the Nation’s Capital, Generation Hope, Centro Nia, and Ashley Hall Foundation.

Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it

Health Care & Other Giving Areas

As health issues came to the forefront in their final decades of life, Jack and Jean expanded their philanthropic giving to medical organizations in the areas of breast cancer, Parkinson’s Disease, and Alzheimer’s research. Today, the foundation continues to support a select few organizations in these areas based on their specific projects and efforts that tie to the Gosnell’s legacy.

Giving frees us from the familiar territory of our own needs by opening our minds to the unexplained worlds occupied by the needs of others.
